SEO for Small Businesses in India: A Practical 90-Day Plan

By the Mediamozak Team4 min read

SEO can feel like a black box, but for most small businesses the work is straightforward: make your website easy for Google to understand, create pages that answer what your customers search for, and earn trust over time. This 90-day plan breaks it into weekly tasks you can do yourself or hand to your marketing team.

Before you start: set up your measurement

  • Google Search Console: shows which searches bring people to your site, which pages are indexed and any errors.
  • Google Analytics 4: shows what visitors do on your site and which pages lead to enquiries.
  • Google Business Profile: essential if you serve customers in a specific city or locality.

Write down your starting numbers: organic visitors per month, enquiries from organic search, and where you currently rank for five to ten important searches.

Days 1–30: Fix the foundations

Technical health

  • Make sure the site loads fast on mobile. Test key pages with Google PageSpeed Insights and fix large images first, since they're the most common problem.
  • Use HTTPS on every page, and redirect all versions (http, www, non-www) to one main address.
  • Submit your XML sitemap in Search Console and check the Pages report for anything Google can't index.
  • Fix broken links and pages that return errors.

Keyword research

List the services you sell and how customers describe them. Use Google's autocomplete, the "People also ask" box and Google Keyword Planner to find real searches. For Indian businesses, include:

  • Location searches: "[service] in Delhi", "[service] in Gurugram", "[service] near me".
  • Price and comparison searches: "[service] cost in India", "[product] price".
  • Hinglish and Hindi variations where your customers use them.

Map each important keyword group to one page on your site. If no page exists for it, add it to your list for next month.

Days 31–60: Build pages that deserve to rank

Strong service pages

Each core service should have its own page that covers what the service includes, who it's for, the process, typical timelines, pricing guidance, FAQs and a clear way to enquire. Thin pages with two paragraphs rarely rank for competitive terms.

On-page basics for every important page

  • A unique title tag with the main keyword near the start, under about 60 characters.
  • A meta description that reads like an ad and encourages the click.
  • One clear H1 heading and logical H2 subheadings.
  • Descriptive image file names and alt text.
  • Internal links from related pages, using descriptive anchor text.

Local signals

Keep your business name, address and phone number consistent across your website, Google Business Profile and directories like Justdial and Sulekha. Our local SEO guide for Delhi businesses covers this step by step.

Days 61–90: Content and authority

Publish helpful blog content

Write articles that answer the questions customers ask before they buy, such as costs, comparisons, how-to guides and checklists. Aim for two to four quality posts a month rather than daily short ones. Each post should link to the relevant service page.

Earn genuine links and mentions

  • Get listed in your industry association and chamber of commerce directories.
  • Partner with suppliers, clients and local organisations for mentions on their websites.
  • Offer expert comments to journalists and industry blogs.
  • Create something worth referencing, such as a useful price guide, a calculator or local survey data.

Avoid buying links in bulk or using link "packages". They can lead to penalties that take months to recover from.

What results to expect after 90 days

SEO compounds over time. After 90 days, you should typically see more pages indexed, more search impressions in Search Console and early ranking gains for less competitive and location-specific searches. Highly competitive national keywords usually take six to twelve months of consistent work.

Your monthly SEO checklist

  • Check Search Console for errors and new keyword opportunities
  • Publish two to four helpful articles linked to service pages
  • Update one existing page with fresher, more complete information
  • Collect new Google reviews and reply to all reviews
  • Earn at least one genuine new mention or link
  • Review organic enquiries and the pages that brought them

Frequently asked questions

Can I do SEO for my business myself?

Yes, many of the basics, such as setting up Search Console, improving service pages, collecting reviews and writing helpful articles, can be done in-house. An agency helps most with technical fixes, strategy, content at scale and link building.

How much does SEO cost in India?

SEO is usually priced as a monthly retainer based on how competitive your industry is, how many pages and locations are involved, and how much content is produced. Compare proposals by the work delivered each month.

Why is my website not showing on Google?

Common reasons are that the site is new and not yet indexed, pages are blocked by a robots or noindex setting, or the content doesn't match what people search for. Google Search Console's URL inspection tool will show you which it is.
